Synopsis Charlie is a 12 year-old boy plagued with personal insecurities and a panic disorder. When his father dies he stops speaking altogether. After not saying a word for nine months, Charlie meets a spunky foster child named Mandy. Mandy quickly befriends Charlie and immediately coaxes him out of his shell of silence when no one else was able too. The two children spend the happiest year of their lives together until Mandy is forced to go and live with another foster family in another city. This turn of events effectively ends their relationship until, as an adult, Mandy starts sending messages to Charlie in a most unconventional way – a way only he would recognize. Charlie (now a doctor of psychology) becomes obsessed with these messages and tries to overcome all of his personal barriers in an effort to find the girl who was the best part of his life when he was a boy. Through poetry and song “Jam Jar Sonnets” examines self-doubt, and abuse, as well as hope, love, romance, and divine intervention in a way that is ultimately both compassionate and comic.
